General Information

Q: How long will it take to measure my building and deliver completed 2D floor plans?

It depends on the size, type and layout of the property.

Residential
Generally, our Technician will spend about one hour on site to measure a 2,000 square foot home. The plans are delivered by e-mail the same evening as the appointment along with the Broker Load Data Sheet to load room measurements directly to a real estate listing. The invoice is processed once the square footage is finalized.

Commercial
The complexity of the layout and the level of detail requested will determine how much time is required. Typically, our Technician can measure and draw about 50,000 square feet per day. Plans are usually delivered by e-mail within two business days.

Q: Will PLANiT need access to every room and storage area?

In order to provide you with an accurate space audit, we must be able to access all the areas in your building. This includes utility rooms, server rooms, storage lockers, etc.

Q: My building is located outside of Toronto. Can you provide measuring services outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)?

PLANiT currently has Technicians located in Southern Ontario and British Columbia. We regularly send our Technicians outside of these areas however, travel fees may apply. Please contact us for more details.

Q: Are you insured?

As a Professional Engineering firm, our products and services are covered by complete Errors and Omissions Insurance. If requested, we will forward a certificate of insurance in your company's name once a commercial contract has been accepted.

Q: What kinds of area certifications are available?

Most measuring companies will include an “Area Certificate Letter” within their standard measuring package. This document is written on company letter head, it includes a description of the space that was measured, the calculated area and, it would be signed by an authorized person in the company (which can include “BOMA Certified Measurement Professionals”). However, these documents should not be confused with a professional certification.

Where your leases or business requirements state that an area calculation be supported by a professional certification, it requires that the measuring take place under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, Architect or accredited Land Surveyor and, that the certificate include their professional stamp and signature.

PLANiT offers both Letters (signed by our BOMA Certified Measurement Professionals where applicable) as well as Professional Engineer’s Certifications. Engineer’s Certificates are equivalent to an Architect’s and can be used even if your lease document just states that an Architect’s stamp is required.

Q: Is there a professional body governing measuring companies and setting industry standards?

Unfortunately no. BOMA has made great strides in setting standards and has recently introduced a certification program for “BOMA Certified Measurement Professional” however, BOMA does not deal with all types of property.

PLANiT Measuring® has taken a step further and in addition to its BOMA membership and certifications, we are the only measuring company in Canada to hold a Certificate of Authorization from the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Québec and Nova Scotia to certify building areas. PLANiT uses Engineering practices to ensure that a systematic and professional methodology is employed in all of its business practices.
